A little bit about Annika

Annika Cahill grew up on a fourth-generation farm in the northeastern corner of Montana. She finished her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Whitman College, where she studied under Dr. David Hyun-su Kim and Carissa Pitkins-Cox. Annika also recently graduated with her Master’s in Piano Pedagogy at Butler University in Indianapolis, studying with Dr. Kate Boyd and Karen Thickstun.

Annika’s pedagogical skills shine as she assists at the Butler Community Art School and actively contributes to the Indianapolis music education scene. She presented research at the Music Teacher National Association’s Collegiate Conference and holds leadership roles within the university. Her teaching style garners high praise, with students and parents lauding her approach. One student (age 11) described her as a “very nice teacher”, eagerly awaiting lessons, while parents noticed their children’s renewed enthusiasm.

Annika’s Teaching Philosophy

"Music is a magic that will never cease to inspire. Pursuing music is a life-long journey that will change perspectives, offer comfort and structure, and accompany students. Pianists are artists, performers, teachers, historians, theorists, accompanists, leaders, and much more. My job as a piano teacher is to help students learn how to become independent musicians and learners. These vital skills will carry the students far beyond the piano bench and support them throughout life."
